Anja Jerčič Jakob was born in Slovenj Gradec on 20th October 1975. She grew up in Velenje, where she also attended the Velenje Grammar School. She graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 2000. In 2004 she received her MA in Graphic Prints from the same Academy where she also received her MA in Painting in 2007.
She has been working as an artist and has been present in the Slovene and international art scene since 2000. She holds regular exhibitions at home and abroad. Her works can be seen in numerous public collections.
She occasionally draws illustrations for children books. Her first illustrations in book form were published in 2016 when she illustrated Jure Jakob’s picture book The Sea for the publishing house Mladinska knjiga.
She has been teaching within various formal and informal educational models since 2000. She has been employed as an Assistant Professor of Painting at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana since 2016.
She lives and creates in Ljubljana.

Awards:

  • Solo exhibition at the Gallery of Fine Arts Slovenj Gradec; award at the exhibition Contemporary Art in Koroška, Slovenj Gradec, 2015.
  • First prize at the fourth biennial of small-format paintings, Ljutomer 2006.
  • 2004 Academy of Fine Arts and Design Award, AFAD, 2004.
  • Second prize at the 10th Fine Arts Colony for AFAD graduates in Velenje, Galerija Velenje, 1999.
